I saved money at H.E.B. Today

My husband and I went shopping at H.E.B. here in Gonzales today and I saved a total of 24.80. This shopping run was a short one. It was not regular shopping day. In coupons I saved 15.16. I took advantage of instore sales.
Our H.E.B. here in Gonzales, Texas is a small one and it does not offer us as much as the bigger super stores do. I shopped in Georgetown, Texas at their H.E.B and was WOWED by all the different things I could do and buy there. I spent 30% more money there also. When I need something different, I find I have to travel elsewhere to get as in Gonzales, Tx we do not have a super Wal-Mart or Super H.E.B. :(

How-To - How to Milk a Cow By Hand

How-To - How to Milk a Cow By Hand

How to Milk a Cow By Hand

The udder should be washed. I take a warm pail of water, an old wash rag and an old towel with me to the barn to rinse and dry the udder. This keeps any mud or manure from falling into your bucket.

Take your milk bucket and set it under the teat to be milked. Best to start off with one teat, once you are good at it you can handle two at a time.

Pinch the top of the teat (closest to the bag) with your thumb and fore-finger (pointing finger). Close the next finger, then the next, then the next (one at a time) over the teat as if you were trying to work water out of a hose.

Release your pinch at the top of the teat (and your other fingers too) and allow milk to enter the teat. Pinch the top of the teat (closest to the bag) with your thumb and fore-finger and repeat the previous movements.

It make take a few times but pretty soon you will be developing a rhythm. Every cow fills her teat back up at a different rate (depending upon how full the udder is) so you'll need to figure this how fast to go as you go along.

Dutch Baby - RECIPES FROM THE WORLD OVER

Dutch Baby - RECIPES FROM THE WORLD OVER

ingredients:3 eggs, at room temperature
¾ cup flour
¾ cup milk (go decadent, use whole or 2%)
2 T butter
1 T sugar
pinch salt

oven: 400
pan: 8-10 cast iron skillet or Dutch (ha! of course) oven

As the oven is heating, toss the butter in your skillet and place it into the oven to heat. In the meantime, whisk together the remaining ingredients.

Once the oven has pre-heated, check the skillet. When your butter is nutty-brown and slightly foamy, pour in the pancake batter. Return to the oven and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the pancake is puffed and golden.

Cool slightly, then cut into wedges and serve. I like mine with a healthy dusting of powdered sugar and squeezes from fresh lemons; Jill prefers hers with syrup and berries.

VARIATIONWhen browning the butter in the oven, include some thinly sliced apple and a dash of cinnamon. Pour the batter over the whole mess and bake the same as above. Makes a lovely treat, especially in fall or winter.
